Matlab Info

HEP has purchased a single matlab license for on-campus users. Users must checkout our license from the campus license server to be allowed to run the program. Our license is allowed to be checked out by any computer currently connected to the HEP (102) subnet. So, a user may install the matlab software on their own laptop, but if that laptop is not connected to the HEP subnet, the software will not run. Laptops must be connected to one of the hepwap wireless routers to be on the HEP subnet. Laptops connected to the Uchicago wireless network are NOT allowed to check out our license.

Unfortunately, campus gives us no way to find out who has checked out our license. We can only see all the licenses checked out from their license server. To see all the current checked out licenses, click here. One can then look through all the licenses to try to determine who has ours checked out.

Please be sure to quit the program when finished, so that others may be allowed to check out the license!
Matlab on Linux

There is a link to matlab on all the hep computers in /usr/local/bin. Unfortunately, matlab in linux requires glibc version 2.3.4 or newer to run. Cern and Fermi Linux 3 both come with glibc version 2.3.2 and thus they are unable to run matlab. We are in the process of upgrading computers to Cern/Fermi Linux 4 in which matlab runs fine. To see a list of nodes in HEP and what version of software they are running, look here.

Matlab on Windows

Matlab is installed on the windows computer located outside of the glass room on the second floor.

Matlab on Laptops

The files required to install matlab on a linux, windows or mac laptop are located on the hep cluster in /support/data2/code/downloads/matlab. Along with the directories linux, macosx and win, there are two files. All users must download the file license.dat, which is the license file. The user will be prompted for this license file during installation. Windows users must also download the file plp.txt, which has the PLP number which is required during windows installations.
