Title: Status and Prospect of the KOTO Experiment
Abstract: The KOTO experiment aims to observe the rare KL➝ π0νν decay, which occurs through a flavor-changing neutral current and violates CP symmetry. This decay has been considered as an ideal “golden mode” because of its theoretical cleanness that provides a clean base to explore new physics through finding deviations from the standard model. However, its small theoretical branching ratio makes the measurement challenging. After the first experimental upper limit on BR(KL➝ π0νν) published 30 years ago, the KOTO experiment is the first experiment with the designed sensitivity of O(10-11) to reach the standard model prediction. I will talk about the status and prospect of the KOTO experiment.
