Title:  Beam Dynamics in a Symplectic World

Abstract:Charged particle beam dynamics historically relied on methods, tools and
algorithms developed for celestial mechanics, optics, or plasma physics. After emerging
as a field of physics in its own right, an important factor in developing it into a
mature, self-contained and coherent, science was played by the realization that beam
dynamics can be embedded into a symplectic world. In this talk, I will explore the
origins and some applications of the interplay between beam dynamics, and
symplectic geometry and topology.
