[Uc_atlas_group] Discussion of LS2 and Run 3 schedule

Given that it is currently ATLAS Upgrade Week, I went ahead and updated my own representation of the future timelines. In case others find this kind of thing useful, here it is!

Since this came up in our group meeting yesterday, there was a discussion of the Long-Shutdown 2 (LS2) schedule and the plans for the end of Run 3 in Karl Jakob’s Spokesperson talk at today’s ATLAS Weekly Meeting:

I have attached the relevant slide for ease of perusing.

The summary is that ATLAS made the case for extending LS2 (i.e. delaying start of Run 3) until June 2021, extending the end of the Year-End-Technical-Stop (YETS) in 2021-2022 until May 2020, and delaying LS3 (i.e. end of Run 3) by 1 year until mid-2027 (instead of mid-2026).

I have also attached two timelines that I have been keeping, one showing my own guesses for the timeframes needed for analyses, preparations for runs, commissioning, construction, etc. Much of this is guided by explicit schedules (e.g. money for starting construction of the Phase II upgrades) but much is also my own crystal ball.
