Mon Apr 4 18:35 Dear L2 Pulsar Interested Parties: The Pulsar has been driving the CDF datataking from about mid March without significant problems. At their presentation at the 1 Apr 2005 TDWG meeting, they indicated they are ready to be declared operational. There are still things to learn and improve, but that comes with operating all the time, and the Pulsar group will still be working actively to improve things in the future. The L2 Pulsar readiness review committee agrees that the Pulsar is operational, and ready for running alone. The committee considers the original L2 Pulsar Upgrade project to be complete. The committee congratulates the L2 Pulsar group for a job well done (and for getting the Pulsar its full "driver's license"). As was recommended previously, the committee recommends that the legacy Alpha system shall remain powered and ready for use for a minimum of one month from today, or until the first week of May 2005. After this one month period until the begining of the 2005 Shutdown, the Legacy software and hardware shall remain in place but not necessarily powered. During the 2005 Shutdown, the support of the legacy system may end and the hardware may be removed. The previous recommendation also calls for Alpha trigger tables to be continued to be built as long as this does not require writing new code. However, maintaining two sets of trigger tables is turning out to be operationally difficult. The CDF Operations group (Rob and Willis) instead suggests that the last regular and high luminosity physics trigger tables for the Alpha be frozen, and maintained to the end of the support period. The switch to Pulsar only physics table building and use should be done as soon as possible. For the L2 Pulsar Readiness Committee and CDF Operations Willis and Rob Tue Apr 5 14:58:30 Dear Ops manager: Here is our plan to take Alpha crate out of run configurations (after we got the full driver license from the review committee): (1) this afternoon, we will take alpha out of physics data taking, and run the rest of store with Pulsar driving alone. we have done this already (at 2:30pm today), with the permission from Sungwon, Rob and Willis. (2) we will keep this run configuration and start next store with Pulsar driving alone. (3) after next store ends, there will be more time in-between stores, we will test all other run configurations without beam without alpha. we will inform the shift crew about this change as well. thanks, Ted for Pulsar group
