Family Photos 2006

New pictures on the 2007 page.

We have decided to get a Cavalier puppy. Moses has us so spoiled that we just can not do without a Cavalier in our lives. We have reserved a ruby puppy from a health-conscious, ethical breeder in New York and will pick him up on our way to Vermont for Christmas. We have tentatively decided to name him Hugo. He looks like a real cutie and comes from a long line of healthy and beautiful Cavaliers. Click on his picture to see more photos of him and his sister as well as links to photos of some of his adult relatives.

Here is the whole litter -- our boy is the one chewing the ribbon.

Moses died last night. On Saturday morning we were taking our walk when he was attacked by two large dogs who broke out of their yard. We were able to get him away from them and to the vet. At first they thought his injuries were minor but he kept getting sicker. On Sunday night we took him to the emergency vet and on Monday morning we took him to a surgical hospital. They did an exploratory surgery during which they found and repaired extensive internal injuries. He survived the surgery and we were hopeful that he might pull through but there was just too much damage. His heart stopped a few hours after surgery. Moses was eight years old and he brought us joy and love every day of those eight years. He was the best little dog. We were lucky to have him and are heartbroken that he's gone. We loved him so much. If anyone is so inclined, a donation to PAWS Chicago would be a nice memorial.
Here are some of my favorite Moses pictures through the years. There are so many more great pictures and great memories.

More Shelby pictures -- she is a very loving little kitten and she and Jack adore each other.

Jack was the Cat in the Hat for Halloween. I made his costume and was very pleased with the way the hat turned out even though he never wore it. Jack and Matt went trick-or-treating with our playgroup friends.

Jack and I just returned from a trip to Florida for Granny's birthday and the Shirley family reunion. We enjoyed the nice weather and being with the family. In the second picture Jack is playing with his grandmother's cousin's granddaughter, Cheyenne.

Introducing Shelby, our new kitten. We did not plan to add another cat to our family just now, but Shelby was dumped without her mother at the Shaffer's farm while we were visiting and we couldn't leave her to die. She is about 4 weeks old and weighs 15 ounces. The second (very goofy) picture of me, Jack, and Shelby shows just how tiny she is.

We went to the new dog beach in Chicago this afternoon. A good time was had by all.

It's hard to get two little boys to pose for a picture -- but they did their best.

Moses frolicked with the other dogs for a while but towards the end he refused to do anything except sit on our blanket and guard our bags!

Here are some pictures of Jack around home:

Here's a current picture of Zoot. She still spends a lot of time hiding in her kittie condo, but she comes out for petting quite a bit. She looks considerably less cranky when you're not pointing a camera at her.

Introducing our new kittie. She is around 2 years old and is supposedly very friendly with other cats so we're hoping she and Annie will be good friends. Her name at the shelter was "Saltine" but we are still deciding what we will call her. This is the picture we saw online that helped us choose her. She's a shy girl and is still getting used to us so we don't have any current pictures of her yet, but this picture shows what she looks like pretty well.
UPDATE: We've decided to name her Zoot which is a mispronunciation of zeut (the Dutch word for salt).

Here are some of the perennials I planted last year. I lost a lot of them but these two have been quite pretty:

Here he is posing in his Sunday clothes before Father's Day breakfast:

Here are some pictures of Max up the tree. This was during one of the early rescue attempts before he got up really high!

Here's Jack wearing my sweater. Very handsome.

We had a wonderful weekend trip to Annapolis and took lots of pictures.
This was Jack's first year coloring eggs. He had a great time and was very careful.

Jack and Moses were tired from the long drive.

The Easter egg hunt:

On Monday we went to DC to see Emily and Teddy's new condo. They are walking distance from the zoo. Jack fell asleep on the way there . . .

. . . but had a great time once he woke up.

On Tuesday we went for a ramble in a park near Neil's house.

Here is Grandmommy ready to rescue a tennis ball from the water.

It's been a slightly dreary winter here in Chicago with not many days that invited picture taking. Here's one of the few chances Jack got to wear his fancy snowsuit.

Jack's birthday was last week. Jack, Mum, and I went to the zoo during the day and we had a family birthday party in the evening. We had a little party with some friends from playgroup on Friday. Jack is now a big fan of birthday cake and birthday presents -- he thinks every day should be his birthday!
