Research Experience

University of Chicago (Postdoctoral)

University of Maryland (Graduate)

Tufts University (Undergraduate)

University of Rochester (Undergraduate)

  • The DØ Experiment (Summer 2002)
    • Simulation of the luminosity monitor.
    • Primary vertex finding algorithm.

Honors and Awards

October 2 - December 11, 2010

72nd Arthur H. Compton Lecturer
Twice a year the director of the University of Chicago's Enrico Fermi Institute selects a postdoctoral scholar to give a series of public lectures. My series, "Particle Physics: What has it done for you lately?" explored the use of particle accelerators and detectors for purposes other than basic research.

Teaching Experience

2003 – 2004

University of Maryland NSF GK-12 Fellow
Contributed to K-12 science education by writing lessons, conducting labs, and performing demonstrations.

Outreach

Spring/Fall 2010

Adopt A Physicist participant
Emailed back and forth with high school students on what it's like to study physics and make it into a career.

February 2010

National Lab Users Trip to Washington, DC
Every year 30-40 physicists from the users groups of the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, Fermilab, and the US Large Hadron Collider community travel to Washington, DC to meet with senators and representatives. We discuss our work and its importance to our nation's competitiveness.

2008 – 2010

Annual DOE Science Bowl Regional Volunteer
Helped run the gameshow-style science competition for high school students. The winners of the regional competitions go to the national competition in Washington, DC.

2007 – 2008

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory Tour Guide
Gave several tours per week to the general public. Tours included a presentation of the lab's mission and achievements and stops at the linear accelerator, a decomissioned detector, and the visitor's center.
