    A PHYSICIST’S EXPERIENCE IN RADIATION THERAPY

  About half of cancer patients are treated with some form
of radiation therapy. While radiation treatment of cancer
was started over 100 years ago, technologies continue
to improve patient care in radiation therapy. After
introducing some of the technologies using a clinical
example, this talk will focus on treatment planning
optimization for particle therapy. Treatment planning
optimization plays a key role in maximizing the benefits
of technologies for patients. Dose-volume constraints,
delivery uncertainties, and radiobiology are some of
the challenges. Some of the solutions that we
developed will be presented.
