Dear all,
I would like to send announcement for today's lunch seminar (the first
lunch seminar in 2014) given by Dr. Ping Tang for PDF improvement with
CMS W production measurements (http://arxiv.org/abs/1312.6283). The
seminar will start at 12:15 as usual. See you at the meeting for
discussion.
Regards, Yasu
Title : Recent CMS measurements of W-boson production and implications
for light parton distribution functions
At the LHC, production of W bosons offers a unique window to perform
stringent tests of theoretical predictions based on the standard model
and enable a direct probe of proton structure functions. Recently the
CMS experiment has measured the muon charge asymmetry in inclusive
W-boson production and associated production of W+charm using the
pp-collision data at sqrt(s)=7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated
luminosity of 4.7-5.0 fb-1. These measurements are used together with
the cross sections for inclusive deep inelastic ep scattering at HERA
in a next-to-leading-order QCD analysis. The determination of the
valence quark distributions is improved, and the strange-quark
distribution is probed directly through the leading-order process g +
s to W + c in proton-proton collisions at the LHC.
